Survey gauges Joplin community interest in attending live, in-person events

Connect2Culture (C2C), Joplin’s community arts agency, compiled and released results from the completed Joplin Area Audience Assessment Survey electronically on Wednesday, February 16, 2021.

C2C, on behalf of the local creative community, developed and administered the Joplin Area Audience Assessment Survey via Google Forms between January 12 and February 5, 2021. 

The assessment gauged community interest in attending live, in-person events, as well as alternative programming. Results are intended to help guide organizations on when and how they should move forward. C2C collected responses from 535 participants, thanks in part to arts and cultural organizations who helped distribute the survey.








Significant findings from the Joplin Area Audience Assessment Survey are as follows:

LIVE, INDOOR EVENTS

51% would consider attending live, indoor events in the near future.

Of those who would consider attending live, indoor events, 36% would do so provided proper precautions are in place. Preferred precautions include: hand sanitizer/dispensers available throughout the venue (78%); masks required for everyone in attendance (75%); limited seating capacity (70%); enforced social distancing (61%); masks available for patrons (43%); temperature checks for all in attendance (37%); undecided (4%).

Of those who would consider attending live, indoor events, 56% would consider doing so in the next six months (April–September 2021)

The most ideal audience size for those interested in attending live, indoor events was 51-100 (25%), closely followed by 0-50 (19%) and 101-150 (15%).LIVE, OUTDOOR EVENTS

89% would consider attending outdoor events in the near future.
Of those who would consider attending live, outdoor events, 58% would do so provided proper precautions are in place. Preferred precautions include: enforced social distancing (73%); hand sanitizer/dispensers available throughout the venue (72%); masks required for everyone in attendance (68%); limited seating capacity (57%); masks available for patron (37%); temperature checks for all in attendance (30%); undecided (4%).








Of those who would consider attending live, outdoor events, 68% would consider doing so in the next 6 months (April–September 2021).

The most ideal audience size for those interested in attending live, outdoor events was 51-100 (23%), closely followed by 101-150 (16%) and 151-200 (13%).PRECAUTIONS

79% of those who completed the survey would not be discouraged by precautions at live, indoor/outdoor events (i.e. mask requirements, temperature checks, social distancing, etc.)

VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING

53% of those who completed the survey would be interested in participating in virtual programming at a price point of free up to $15 per household.

34% of those who completed the survey are no longer interested in virtual programming.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The majority of those that completed the survey reported attending 4-6 arts events annually prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Age groups were well-represented by those that completed the survey: 51-60 (20%); 31-40 (20%); 61-70 (19%); 41-50 (18%); 71-80 (10%); 24-30 (8%).

67 percent of those completing the survey reported residing within the immediate Joplin area (i.e. 64801, 64804).The results in their entirety will be given to the local arts and cultural community to assist organizations in moving forward with future programming. 

Aside from helping them, C2C hopes a more distinct idea of the community’s desire for in-person events is encouraging to organizations facing uncertainties each day.
