(From the Carthage R-9 School District)The Carthage R-9 Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, August 16, 2021, 6:00 pm, at Carthage Intermediate Center. Present were Board members Niki Cloud, Bill Lasley, Karen Wilkinson, Jeff Jones, Patrick Scott, and Ryan Collier.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Niki Cloud, Acting President. The Board approved the Consent Agenda for the purpose of approving the meeting agenda, minutes of previous meetings, authorize payment of bills, approve district financial report, approve staff handbooks with the exception of pulling the High School Handbook, and approve special education compliance plan.
Gregg Wolf, Assistant Superintendent for Business, provided an evaluative report on Safety, Missouri School Improvement Area G-8(7). Safety protocols are in place for return to school.
Following a hearing on the district’s proposed tax rate, the Board established the total tax levy for 2021-2022 at $3.852. The tax rate has decreased by $0.1258 from the 2020-2021 year.
Dr. Baker spoke in regards to board member replacement process. Applications will be available at the Administration Building from August 24th-September 7th.
The Board approved the 2021-2022 Tigers Together (SRCSP) Back-to-School Plans for a Healthy and Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan.
Potential and expected expenditures include new big playground equipment for every school, supplies/PPE- new for 2021- 2022 and inventory, cleaning supplies, towels, hand sanitizers, masks, etc., and a new bus.
Dr. Baker updated the Board regarding the following items:
• City Council Proclamation
• Board Member Application opens August 24th
• Possible ribbon Cutting in September for South Tech Addition
• North Tech Remodel Project, starting next month
• School starts, Monday August 23
The Board met in closed session immediately following the regular meeting to discuss legal and personnel matters in compliance with Section 610.021 (1), (3), and (13) of the Revised Statutes of Missouri. In closed session the Board accepted the following personnel actions: Approved contracts and employment of certified and support staff presented contingent upon receiving a clear criminal record check from the Missouri Highway Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation, and a clear check of the Adult Abuse/Neglect Registry maintained by the Missouri Department of Social Services for all employees new to the district:
