Autopsy confirms 17-year-old Joplin girl died of single gunshot wound,

An autopsy conducted Monday in Ozark confirmed that a 17-year-old Joplin girl died of a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to a Joplin Police Department news release.

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed first degree murder and armed criminal action charges against the victim's biological father, Todd J. Mayes, 59, Joplin.

According to the probable cause statement, Mayes shot the girl following an argument in which she threw a bottle at him, going downstairs, taking a gun out of a drawer, then returning to shoot her, going back downstairs and placing the gun back in the drawer.

The Police Department news release said the investigation was continuing.
