The Joplin R-8 School District is searching for a "community engagement coordinator" and posted an advertisement for the position on the district website today.

Position: Community Engagement Coordinator

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree, preferred; Related Experience, required; Microsoft Office proficiency, required; Excellent Verbal/Oral Communication Skills, required

Reports to: Director of Communications and Community Engagement
The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the Bright Futures Joplin program which provides a path for communities to engage everyone (school-based, community-based, business-based, faith-based, and service-based) in a collective movement to develop relationships and channel resources to fill the gap, regularly enabling students to more fully access their learning.

- Properly supervise students at all times, if applicable to essential job functions.

- Maintain courteous and professional relationships with students, parents/guardians, other district employees and the public.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, department staff, all members of the school district, and community as required.
- Provides excellence in customer service both internally and externally.
- Complies with privacy rights and safeguards confidential and/or sensitive information pertaining to staff and students.
- Reacts to change productively and receive and transmit constructive criticism as it relates to job duties.
- Actively participate in professional development and obtain skills and information necessary to effectively perform job duties.
- Conduct all official business in a professional and timely manner, utilizing district technology resources.
- Arrive to work and leave work at the time specified by supervisors and attend all required meetings pertinent to the position.
- Maintains accurate records and filing systems for accountability and audit purposes as required by law and Board policy.
- Solve practical problems utilizing math functions as needed to complete job duties.
- Read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, and handbooks and apply to job duties.
Essential Functions:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of Bright Futures Joplin
- Serve as a liaison for all stakeholders (community, faith-based, business, school, service, etc.)
- Create communication and resource structures to meet students’ basic needs within 24 hours
- Connect and coordinate family and community support services
- Identify, develop relationships with, refer to, and use community resources
- Assist the Bright Futures Joplin Board, including preparing for, scheduling and guiding monthly board meetings
- Plan, direct, or coordinate activities to solicit and maintain funds, including fundraising events and grant writing to support Bright Futures Joplin
- Maintain financial accounts and records for Bright Futures Joplin
- Organize donations for Bright Futures Joplin and provide these items to meet the needs of students
- Plan, direct, or coordinate activities designed to create or maintain a favorable public image or raise awareness for Bright Futures Joplin and Joplin Schools.
- Maintain the Bright Futures Joplin websites, including all social media related to Bright Futures Joplin
- Coordinate and oversee district programs i.e., Trek, Lunch Pals, and Snack Packs
- Coordinate volunteer efforts district-wide, and maintain accurate software system to track those efforts
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and
must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to
travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel.
An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:
- Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously
- Light to moderate lifting is required up to fifty pounds
- Read handwritten or printed material
Attendance
Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.

Conditions and Environment
The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.

I thought it had dried up and blown away like last years fallen leaves.
Instead it has apparently burrowed in like an out of work lobbyist or politician.
