(From the Carthage R-9 School District)The Carthage R-9 Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, July 18, 2022, 6:00 pm, at Carthage South Technical Center. Present were Board members Niki Cloud, Bill Lasley, Karen Wilkinson, Nathan Terry, Jeff Jones, Patrick Scott, and Ryan Collier. Niki Cloud led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Board approved the Consent Agenda for the purpose of approving the meeting agenda, minutes of previous meeting, payment of bills, financial report, date for tax rate hearing, North Technical Center Addition Change Order #1, and Joplin Schools Juvenile Center Service Agreement.
Janeane Myhre, Food Service Director, provided an evaluative report on Food Service, Missouri School Improvement Area G-8(9), stating nutritionally balanced meals will be charged starting the 2022-2023 school year. Ms. Myhre also discussed upcoming job fairs, supply chain distributions and disruptions, and the importance of receiving free/reduced meal applications from parents.
Jeff Fries, Transportation Director, provided an evaluative report on Transportation, Missouri School Improvement Area G-8(10), including one bus accident resulting in a total loss, the difficulty determining transportation needs necessary to accommodate bus routes, annual inspection of buses, safety initiatives regarding digital cameras, secondary flashing lights, as well as, LED light on the front of the buses. Mr. Fries also expressed the dire need for bus drivers.
Mr. Jones reported he had no update for the Carthage R-9 Foundation.
Dr. Baker presented the amended 2022-2023 budget, including a $1,500 raise to the teachers' base salary, a $1.25 per hour raise to support staff salary schedules, and a 3.8% increase for staff off salary schedules.
The board approved the amended 2022-2023 budget and also approved a one-time $500 payment to certified staff.
Dr. Baker presented a PAC update regarding tax rate vs. tax paid, tax increase or tax decrease, community support, R9 debt service levy summary, local school district levies, PAC seating capacity, and the importance of voting on August 2, 2022.
Dr. Baker stated the next and final PAC public meeting will be held July 28, 2022 at the Carthage Auditorium.
Dr. Baker updated the Board regarding the following:

• Hiring Fair – July 20 at Intermediate Center 11:00am – 1:00pm
• Hiring Fair – July 21 at Intermediate Center 5:00pm – 7:00pm

• July 28 Performing Arts Center Community Meeting – 6:30pm Carthage Auditorium
• PAC Update- Election is August 2, 2022
The Board met in closed session immediately following the regular meeting to discuss legal and personnel matters in compliance with Section 610.021 (1), (3), and (6), of the Revised Statutes of Missouri.
