Judge orders former Cottey College professor held without bond on child pornography charge

A former Cottey College professor will be held without bond while awaiting trial on a child pornography charge.

Sylvio Mannel entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment during a hearing this morning in U. S. District Court in Springfield.

A federal grand jury initially indicted Mannel, 49, in 2016, but he fled to Germany, which would not extradite him to the U. S. Italian authorities extradited him earlier this month.

According to the detention motion, Mannel's Cottey College computer had a hidden folder which contained thousands of child pornography images.
