Autopsy results: Joplin double homicide victims died from gunshot wounds

Autopsies of murder victim Stacy Rush, 35, Joplin, and Erik Stampfli, 35, Grove, Oklahoma, show both died from gunshot wounds, according to a news released issued this afternoon by the Joplin Police Department.

The bodies of Rush and Stampfli were discovered by Joplin police officers when they answered a call 9:16 p.m. Monday at Rush's home at 2216. S. Annie Baxter Avenue.

The suspected killer, Rush's estranged husband, David L. Rush, 34, Wyandotte, Oklahoma, died in a Joplin hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday. He shot himself following three hours of negotiations with officers in Newton County following a pursuit that began in Oklahoma.

Online Jasper County Circuit Court records indicate Rush and the victim were in the process of having their marriage dissolved. A hearing had been scheduled for Monday, but was canceled after a joint affidavit requesting the dissolution and a property settlement were filed October 27.
