(From Seventh District Congressman Billy Long)Tuesday night, after a week-long wait, Decision Desk HQ officially predicted that Republicans would take control of the House of Representatives on January 3, 2023.
With the new majority comes the important power to bring legislation to the floor for a vote, giving Republicans the ability to block reckless spending bills that would only worsen inflation. The majority also gives Republicans the gavels in all House committees, and some committee chairmen will have subpoena power as well. It’s another important power given to the majority party, one that should be exercised next year.
The House has a great responsibility of government oversight. With the new majority, committee chairmen will be able to hold hearings on the ongoing crisis on our Southern Border, the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, the baby formula crisis from this summer, and much more.
We’ve talked at great length about the numerous crises that have been caused by the Biden Administration’s terrible policies, and starting next year Republicans will have the chance to properly investigate these issues, and propose legislation to fix them.
The oversight power also allows Congress to investigate alleged corruption at the highest levels of our government.
The oversight power also allows Congress to investigate alleged corruption at the highest levels of our government.
Take for example the Hunter Biden saga. In the immediate runup to the 2020 election, you’ll recall Hunter Biden’s laptop was discovered left at a Delaware repair shop, with many emails suggesting he was profiting off of his father’s name and office.
Then one of his business partners, Tony Bobulinski, alleged that President Biden himself might have been involved in these deals after leaving office as Vice President.
Bobulinski specifically claimed that one email stating “10% for the big guy” was in fact a reference to President Biden getting 10% of the deal. Obviously this is concerning, and should be looked into now that Republicans control the House.
Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Chuck Grassley has also received whistleblower complaints from within the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) that the FBI is aware of allegations that the Biden family was profiting off of then Vice President Biden’s name, and that President Biden, at the very least, knew it was happening and didn’t act to stop it.
These allegations of corruption should be investigated fully. If President Biden and his family were profiting off of his position as Vice President, that is incredibly concerning, and the American people deserve to know the full truth.
Now that Republicans will control House committees, it is imperative that they give the American people a full account of what happened, and whether or not the FBI is holding the Bidens to a different standard than they would Republican politicians who were accused of the same thing. We need to be able to trust our government, but we can’t do that without knowing the full truth.
Why does Billy Blob care now? He didn't mind when Trump and his family were raking in profits while in office.
ReplyDeleteSilly Billy won't be there to see it first-hand. He decided to run for US Senate and left a safe seat for the past dozen years.
ReplyDeleteBilly's working hard on his Wingnut Welfare applications.
ReplyDeleteSpouting this type of krap is probably justhim announcing he wants to stay in the kool kidz klub.
Waste some money investigating. Even if found at fault no one is ever punished. Only the little guy gets sent to prison. Look at Trump and Clinton, impeachment is a joke on YOU.
ReplyDeleteThey laugh all the way to the bank. Go ahead and investigate, waste my money.
