The Dade County Commission decided earlier this week to stop housing prisoners in the county jail.
The decision, according to the Greenfield Vedette, came down to money. The jail is outdated and the county does not have the money to bring it to the necessary standards.
Dade County prisoners will be housed in jails in adjacent counties, according to the Vedette. The sheriff's office will remain in the jail.
