Skeletal remains of Joplin man, missing since 2021, found in Colorado

The skeletal remains of an adult male located in the area of Middle Mountain Road (northeast of Vallecito Reservoir) have been identified.

DNA testing by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation Forensic Laboratory and in consultation with the La Plata County Coroner identified the remains as Michael Kroll (DOB: 07/20/1980.) 








Kroll, a resident of Joplin, Missouri, had been in the Pagosa Springs area a short time before being reported missing on October 19, 2021.

Hikers in the area discovered the remains on September 25, 2022.
 
There are no additional details available as this is an active and ongoing investigation.
