The rumors of the "firing" or "arrest," of Freeman Health CEO Paula Baker, depending on who was telling the story, were circulating so heavily on social media today that at one point the Freeman Health Twitter account addressed the situation.
"FYI- Paula Baker was not terminated. Freeman's leader is still here going strong. The rumors are not true."
Apparently thinking that did not sound like a dignified statement about a serious topic, that tweet, which you can see on the accompanying screenshot, appears to no longer be on Twitter.
Instead, Baker tweeted six hours, not addressing rumors, but talking Freeman business to let people know she is still at the helm.
"Medicaid is starting annual renewals April 1, 2023. It is important not to lose coverage for you or your loved ones. Keep contact information up to date to make sure you receive important notices. To make changes call 855.373.4636 or online at bit.ly/3y2WBXK."
It is not hard to understand why people might think something was happening with Baker. In a January 18 e-mail to all Freeman employees, it was announced that three top officials, Carlos Haley, vice president and chief compliance officer, general counsel Matt Adrian and assistant general counsel Ally Adrian, were no longer employed by Freeman.
While stories of an FBI investigation into the hospital have accompanied many of the rumors that have been circulating, only one federal investigation into Freeman has been confirmed. In November, an investigation was confirmed into the case of a woman who was refused an emergency abortion at Freeman after her water broke only 18 weeks into her pregnancy.
Federal law requires hospitals that participate in the Medicare program to provide care for patients in emergency situations.
The Missouri State Health Department confirmed to Missouri Independent that the federal government initiated the investigation.

Paula survives
ReplyDeleteHmm might recheck that. It was visibly seen Baker in handcuffs being escorted out 2 days ago!!!
ReplyDeleteDid you see it with your own two eyes?
DeleteWhy did no one take a pic?
DeleteI don't see anywhere in this story where it says that did or did not happen. The story says that Freeman says she is still on the job and she sent a tweet Friday afternoon. It points out that three top officials are no longer with the hospital and it says there has been a federal investigation into the hospital. And it says what the rumors are and until I have confirmation, those are just rumors. This post would probably not have been written had Freeman not made it a point to say Baker was still CEO.
ReplyDeleteShe and that ghoulish cardiologist cohort need to do some time for what they pulled. How many employees lives were trashed due to their absurd mandates?
ReplyDeleteZERO
DeleteSounds like Paula was needing a scapegoat (firing the top 3) to protect her 2.5M annual salary from being taken away if Medicaid found that the abortion should have been performed.
ReplyDeleteIf you have to fire 3 top executives because they either did not know what to do or did what they were told not to do. This is a failure of the CEO to communicate policy that would protect the hospital. Either way she probably needs to resign or be replaced immediately.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this’ll get sorted out. Freeman might need to take on a new CEO at some point from an outside place and get a fresh perspective and management model. The current way of doing business is not working too well.
ReplyDeleteOh, to not see that face plastered all over the city on billboards would be a fine thing. Worked with her years ago. Not a person of integrity.
ReplyDeleteI never understood that massive and desperate ego trip. Why all the billboards…. Why?
DeleteOk....rumors are rumors, but look at the overall picture.
ReplyDelete1. 3 top officials gone - but Paula is not (sounds fishy) cant say she didn't know was going as the top dog. She found her escape goats.
2. Freeman is being investigated for insurance fraud.
3. Funny to me that you hear nothing on the news/papers etc. - maybe because Freeman knew how to play the game of silence? Freeman doppler bought for the stations. They
4. If they want to clear up rumors- then be honest with the public. Rumor is they are billing insurances for surgerys not needed, and backing off those that need it but have no insurance. So billing insurance- that is including Medicad fraud. How long has this been going on?
If people and Freeman employees know about this- and have nothing to hide- then clear up the rumors.
Never said if she was arrested or not. You can go to jail and get out on bond and still go back to your job. You can keep things quiet if you pay the right people enough money. Everything is about greed!
