Kansas City Democrat: Republicans give first round approval to bill allowing concealed weapons on buses, in churches

(From Rep. Erin Burnett, D-Kansas City)

April 13 should’ve been a Friday because a lot of ominous and chilling votes took place.

The House of Representatives took a voice vote granting first-round approval to Republican-sponsored legislation that would allow concealed weapon permit holders to carry firearms on public transit and in churches.

Representative David Smith, a Democrat representing Columbia, offered an amendment to prevent unsupervised minors, excluding members of the military or those working in law enforcement, from carrying weapons. from possessing weapons, but GOP lawmakers loudly rejected it by a vote of 48-102.

Currently, it’s against the law to carry concealed guns on public transit, or in churches without the pastor’s permission. HB 282 would legalize both and goes as far as preventing pastors who object to weapons on religious grounds from prohibiting firearms on their premises.

The bill is the latest move in the years-long effort by Republicans to eliminate firearm restrictions in Missouri in the name of expanding the rights of gun owners. Democrats noted that violent crime and firearm fatalities have steadily risen in Missouri as a result and that firearms are now the state’s leading cause of child mortality. A second, recorded vote is necessary to advance HB 282 to the Senate.

Oh, the horror! With the rise in attacks against people of faith, every church should have a volunteer, armed security team.

Oh, the horror! Militarized church services in the name of God! Let's all feel pity and take up even more arms for all the white Christians who are under attack by the trans kids, people of color, Muslims, drag queens, libraries, etc, etc.

I always find it interesting that the people that don't believe in God (any God for that matter) and would therefore have to rely on something like evolution to explain the current state of a species are the ones who also say that a man can just become a woman and vice versa. I wonder why we do not see this behavior in nature ? Because it is impossible. It is funny that those that talk about believing in God is believing in a myth or make believe but someone can just switch biological genders at will. What happened to "follow the science"?
