The Missouri Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church earlier this month approved the requests of three Joplin churches to disaffiliate from the conference.
The disaffiliations of Christ's Community Church of Joplin, First United Methodist Church and Royal Heights United Methodist Church are among 74 approved statewide, including seven in Jasper County, three in Barton County and one in Dade County.
The disaffiliations are occurring nationwide, and in many cases have been due to what the departing churches believe is a movement among UMC leaders toward approving gay marriage and gay pastors.
Many of the departing churches will be affiliated with the new and more conservative Global Methodist Church.
Among the churches that are disaffiliating:
Jasper County
Christ's Community Church- Joplin
First United Methodist Church- Oronogo
First United Methodist Church- Joplin
Jasper
Mount Moriah (Jasper)
Royal Heights- Joplin
Sarcoxie
Barton County
Lamar
Nashville
Oakton
Dade County
Dadeville
And they wonder why attendance is going down, down, down,
ReplyDeleteChurch is dead from catechism of the bigot
Just as the Bible says things will be, we are near the second coming of Christ. Praise God
ReplyDeleteTribalism with a splash of conservative republican division/fear mongering. Disappointing nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteBased, worthy, brave, decisions. Not easy to make and do. The UMC hierarchy makes each church pay them for the building....
