(Note: This report is a bit late. I apologize for letting the story slip through the cracks.)
Following a one-day trial in McDonald County Circuit Court, Judge Gregory Stremel denied serial drunk driver Edward Meerwald's request for limited driving privileges.
Meerwald, 68, Noel, was sentenced to four years in prison in 2019 after pleading guilty to his most recent DWI.
The Joplin Police Department arrested Meerwald for drunk driving at a time when he was already awaiting trial on a separate DWI charge in McDonald County.
Meerwald was also sentenced to four years on that charge in January 2020, with the sentences to run concurrently, following a plea bargain agreement.
The vehicle Meerwald was driving at a high rate of speed ran off Highway 86 and ran into the eight-year-old and her grandfather killing them.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter and served time in prison.
They say - "Do the Crime Do the Time", but with "Good Time" - these Criminals are back on the Streets way to Early - - then they want an Amnesty of their Crimes - - Most Criminals will Re-Offend - - Do we Trust that this Serial Criminal has been Rehabilitated - I DO NOT!!!
ReplyDeleteShould Edward Meerwald be given a Chance to KILL another Person - - He did LESS THAN 3-YEARS for Killing 2-Individuals - Jessica Mann, 8, Joplin, and her grandfather, Jim Dodson, 69, Neosho.
Eight Year Old Jessica Mann and her Grandfather, Jim Dodson - will never have the opportunity to enjoy life - Yet Mr. Meerwald - will be able to enjoy Sunshine and Walking Free from Jail - - I DO NOT BELIEVE - MR. MEERWALD WILL EVER PAY HIS DEBT TO THE FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND SOCIETY FOR TAKING THE LIFE OF THIS YOUNG GIRL AND HER GRANDFATHER - HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN LOCKED UP FOR LIFE - - -
PLUS HAD THE JUDGES AND PROSECUTING ATTORNIES - STOPPED MR. MEERWALD - FROM BECOMING A SERIAL DRUNK DRIVER AND GIVING HIM A SLAP ON THE REST - THESE 2-INDIVIDUALS MAY STILL BE ALIVE...
SO, ALL THE JUDGES AND PROSECUTING ATTORNEYS AND HIS DEFENSE ATTORNEYS - - SHOULD ALL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR LETTING THIS SERIAL DRUNK DRIVER BACK ON THE STREETS - TIME AFTER TIME.
MR. MEERWALD - SHOULD GET USE TO RIDING A BICYCLE - WHEREVER HE NEEDS TO GO FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE AND SHOULD NEVER BE GIVEN THE RIGHT TO DRIVE AGAIN...
STOP FEELING SORRY FOR THE CRIMINALS AND START FEELING SORRY FOR THE VICTIMS...
It looks like Mac County judges don’t play games. Jasper County
DeleteJudges need to learn a thing or two from this.
Maco Judge has Balls
Jasco Judge is a Bitch
ReplyDeleteImagine how much lighter his sentence might have been if Missouri had not tightened it's drunk driving laws with Jessica's Law!!

Governor Matt Blunt today will sign the sex offender bill approved by the Legislature this year. Blunt is holding several unofficial signing ceremonies throguhout the state, but will sign the real bill early this afternoon in his Capitol office. This is Missouri’s version of Jessica’s Law, the law approved in Florida following the rape and murder of 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford. Blunt acknowledges he worried that the bill wouldn’t make it through the session. The main portion of the bill creates a mandatory prison sentence of 30 years for anyone convicted of raping a child 12-years-old or younger.
"JESSICA’S LAW" NOW IN EFFECT
by admin | Aug 29, 2005 | Politics / Govt | 0 comments
Missouri’s second “Jessica’s Law” has gone into effect. The first Jessica’s Law got tough with sex offenders. It’s based on a Florida law. This one increases the penalties for manslaughter involving drun drivers. And, it makes the punishments even stiffer if the driver has a previous DWI record. It’s named for Jessica Mann, a seven-year-old girl who was killed, along with her grandfather, when a drunk driver hit them as they went to the roadside mailbox. The driver had a blood alcohol two-and-a-half times the legal limt. Jessica Mann’s father, Mike, says it’s a law Missouri badly needs. Mann says it’s a miracle the bill was passed in its first legislative session. The sponsor, Senator Gary Nodler of Joplin, says drunk drivers turn vehicles into lethal weapons that are used too often. He says punishment, up to now, has not been justice. The law, however, has a flaw. It’s one of two drunk driving laws passed this year. But the bills refer to different criminal statutes. The Governor signed the bills although admitting the situation is confusing. He has asked the Legislature to straighten out the matter during the special session that starts next week.
