A note to Tyson official: Stop trying to sugarcoat the loss of 1,533 jobs in Noel

Nothing sounds hollower than a company official trying to sugarcoat the closing of a plant and the loss of 1,533 jobs.

Yet that is exactly what Ronald Chapman Jr., vice president of Tyson Foods' Poultry Division did in his WARN notice to Noel Mayor Terry Lance informing him that the city's (and the area's) biggest employer is shutting down for good.

"Tyson Foods regrets that its team members must be displaced yet hopes to accomplish these closings with the least possible disruption to team members, their families, and the community."

Too late for that.

Tyson is throwing 1,533 people into unemployment, closing the plant where some have worked for decades, but Tyson will do whatever it can to make it easier.

The mayor must have breathed a sigh of relief when he read that comment.

A few words of advice to Mr. Chapman.

Drop the "team members" nonsense. They're your workers. You're not playing basketball.

"Displaced" is another meaningless word designed to make what is happening sound like a picnic in the park.

The workers are losing their jobs.

Tell the truth and don't sugarcoat it.

You have given your workers two months to find new employment- that is something and while it doesn't lessen the impact of the decision, it gives workers time to adjust and to try to come up with a plan.

Above all, Mr. Chapman, if you ever have to write another letter like this in the future and I am sure at some point you will, try to remember that you still have a job- and try to imagine what you would want to be told if your bosses ever decide to take away that job.

These are human beings, Mr. Chapman. Treat them with respect.

I would assume this closure involves some level of superficial lip service on Tysons part as a good majority of employees are migrants and therefore pose minimal threat politically to Tyson or their extremist donors. Having been well acquainted with Noel schools, this new layer of trauma upon the community, and children in particular, aligns with potential emotional long-term consequences. It was more than enough to endure the trump presidency, and the torturous journey to just get here. May God bless them all.

This is only the beginning. All of you who voted for Biden and thank your buddy Joe. Yellow Freight just went out after years in business. Hog farmers are closing plants. This government is corrupt and doing everything humanly possible to make sure there is food shortage, lack of law and order, and illegals and drugs flooding into our country. They are turning America into a third world country. What a sad day for a once great country.

Well the catfish in the Elk River will be deprived of eating chicken guts and Elk River will become a tad shade less green. Maybe the Mexicans and Somalis will have to move on to other places where theys skills in pulling chicken guts are needed.

Good bye Tyson Foods. You will not be missed. There are other poultry plants which are more modern and need migrant workers.

Wow.... Anonymous 10:20pm, you are a heartless human being... These are fellow humans, not Somalis or Mexicans. You are what's wrong with McDonald County and the reason it's not a desirable place to live.

I’m glad Tyson in Noel is closing. I remember when Noel was a cool little river town where we had family picnics and rented inner tubes, canoes and paddle boats. Maybe with the mexicans and somalians gone, it will return to what it was before they came and ruined it.

I’m curious if you can explain simply and briefly how Joe Biden is responsible for the closing of this plant? Did he order it through the federal dept of chickens? Is he on the board? Some new chicken tax? According to google their revenues as of Oct of 2022 were up 10 billion over what it was in Oct of 2020 and experienced 13% growth in in 2022 alone. The company is doing well. Maybe, just maybe this is a business move that has nothing to do with politics? And more likely a move to just help the company grow. It sucks we’re losing that many jobs in the area but it’s not always about who’s in office or not. I wish all well and hope that all those affected are employed again soon.

To 140,1244,1020, and 552. You all are obviously maga white trash, or you're just kkk wannabes. Regardless, you kinda give it away with your scripted hate speech and ignorance. Speaking of trash, it's probably your residences that I pass in Mac County that have piles of shit and multiple wrecked rusted out cars in the front yard. By the way, are you ever going to remove the blue tarp and put a real roof over your shanty house? Your racist beliefs are nothing more than fox news talking points that appeal to "fine people" like yourselves. Mac County will always be the armpit of missouri as long as you racist "brain surgeons" have any influence whatsoever.

To 7:27 (The Virtue Signaler). Those people you are lambasting are American citizens and veterans who have lost jobs to migrants who will take any job…even when the processing plants are underpaying. If you pile twenty people into one two-bedroom, one bath house, you can afford to take less pay. Americans are priced out of the job and housing market thanks to illegals. Additionally, they are on food stamps and who knows what other assistance. I notice that when it comes time for schools to open, the line is overwhelmed with migrants usurping all the freebies donated by American citizens. They are also first in line for Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets and toys. Noel is crime-ridden and filthy. You must not be old enough to remember what a cool little summertime getaway it used to be. FYI, I am not a resident of Noel or Mac County. I don’t visit Noel, Lanagan or Ginger Blue or float the rivers and creeks anymore. Third world migrants have ruined it for many people.

To 1156, (The smug submissive miscreant follower). Thanks for putting yourself out there 1156. I'm not sure if there's a more articulate description of white nationalism that describes your childlike fears of being supplanted and outperformed by a minority. The only thing missing from your entry were more quotes from Mein Kampf and a symbolic solute to whom you bow to. Such a shame that your rights to white privilege are slowly eroding away and you're being replaced and led by more skilled and intelligent people of color. It 's sad because your ignorance can't accept the fact that your white world is getting smaller and you're losing your small fragile position in it. Along with all the other maga white national extremist, keep flying your hateful trump flags, it helps the FBI keep track of you!

At 5:45 you obviously don't understand the negative impact illegal immigration has on the United States and its economy. Mexicans will do any job for low pay while also receiving food stamps and medicaid which deprives us citizens from getting the help they need because the resources are being used up by illegals. Don't forget that these programs are funded by US CITIZENS tax dollars. Then the Mexicans send money back to their families in Mexico so they are doing nothing to help the economy nor putting any money they earn back into the society. It's disgusting how people are trying to normalize illegal immigration. You probably support transgender and lgbtqier or whatever they call it.
