Joplin woman accused of punching, pepper-spraying ex-boyfriend

A Joplin woman was charged with third degree assault, a felony, after allegedly attacking her ex-boyfriend September 12.

According to the probable cause statement, Cheyanna Dawn Miller, 22, "physically assaulted her ex-boyfriend, Victim 1, by punching Victim 1 multiple times in the back, head, and face.

"While Victim 1 attempted to escape, Miller pepper sprayed him in the face. This caused Victim 1’s face to be bright red from the pepper spray and his back to hurt from being punched."

Miller pleaded not guilty during a video arraignment Friday. Her next hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday in Jasper County Circuit Court.
