Former Carthage parks director charged with leaving the scene after accident in bar parking lot

Former Carthage parks director Mark Peterson, already facing three counts of stealing and two counts of money laundering, is back in trouble with the law again.

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney filed a misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident charge today against Peterson in connection with a January 17 incident in the parking lot at Roscoe's Bar and Grill, 325 E. Grant, Carthage.

The victim reported that his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado (4YGM04) was struck by a white midsized pickup truck in the north parking lot of the business. Witness 1 advised that he observed the incident. He was outside on the phone when he observed a white GMC pickup reverse from a parking spot and strike the victim's black truck.

The witness advised that the impact moved the victim's truck. He also stated that he made eye contact with the suspect, gestured for the suspect to stop but the suspect continued and left the property.

The witness recalled that the first two characters of the suspect's license plate were "5M." I contacted the business owner who later provided video footage of the incident.

Employees were able to identify the suspect from the incident as Mark Peterson. They were familiar with Peterson and also able to identify him from his receipt from his bar tab.

The Carthage Police Department investigation was able to identify the suspect vehicle as Peterson's, according to the probable cause statement.

The owner of the vehicle he allegedly hit obtained four estimates of the cost to fix his car, ranging from a high estimate of $1,624.76 to a low estimate of $728.24.

Peterson's preliminary hearing on the felony stealing and money laundering charges is scheduled for March 1 in Jasper County Circuit Court.

Details of those allegations can be found at the link below:

Mark Peterson - What a Fall from Grace - - Hopefully he gets Jail Time for this and his Theft Charges - So he can Dry Out in Prison. His Close Friend Recently Reprimanded Jasper County Circuit Court Judge John Nicholas - Will Not be able to Bail Him Out of this Incident or his Theft Charges for Stealing and Money Laundering over $140,000 from the City of Carthage.

Of Course he is being Defended by Joplin attorney Brian Glades of the Glades Law Firm - With his Father Phil - they are Notorious for Delaying their Clients Trials and trying to Cut Backroom Courthouse Deals with the Local Judges and Idiotic Prosecuting Attorneys - -

Maybe One Day - we will have a System - Where there are No More Slaps on the Wrist, No More Get out of Jail Free Cards, No More Backroom Courthouse Deals, No More Letting Everyone Out on Probation. So we can send a CLEAR MESSAGE - To the Criminals that Society is Feed Up with Criminals and their Crimes.

Making Mistakes are One Thing - Purposely Planning and Committing a Criminal Act of Stealing and Money Laundering - is a Whole Different Story and Not an Honorable Mistake, but a Malicious Act.

Why is Phil Glades a Local Hero - - Of What - Criminals and Cutting Deals to allow them to get back on the Streets - to Drive Drunk, Use More Drugs, or Commit More Crimes on the Public.

Sounds like quite the Local Hero - - Unless you have been the Victim of One of his Many Criminal Clients.

All Attorneys are just OVERPAID AND OVERPRICED - MOUTHPIECES - - That just Prey on People in their Hour of Need - LOCAL HERO - BS...

Mr. Peterson was told by the most unscrupulous Carthage city administrator Greg Dagnan, “be quiet, or bad things will happen to you” then all of a sudden…wouldn’t you know it…bad things start happening to him. Every day across this country, city governments use police departments to frighten and intimidate its citizens for a myriad of reasons. It should not surprise anyone that a former unpopular police chief is moved into city hall and all of a sudden a person who has never had a legal problem is threatened then “bad things happen”

@3:53 Did Dagnan crash Peterson's car into a parked vehicle outside a bar? Then sneaks off unbeknownst so Peterson catches the blame?

Crash? I was unaware there was a crash. I’ll be very interested to see the crash investigation information.

To be fair the media is just reporting on what they have been given by the police report. I am sure the news outlets have tried to get pictures of the damage and tried to interview witnesses. To be fair to all, convicting someone with statements like above should wait for the details to be released and a court to decide.

Safe to assume a citation for leaving the scene of an accident is cheaper than driving while intoxicated?

Yup, that's the smart move to make in that situation.
