A man described as a former Joplin church youth minister following his arrest was sentenced to 40 years in prison today by Judge Dean Dankelson for the November 2021 rape of a 13-year-old Jasper girl.
A Jasper County jury found John Vincent Estes guilty following a two-day trial in February.
Estes was arrested following a Jasper Police Department investigation. The police department issued the following news release today:
Jasper PD who worked the case was there for the hearing. The families of the victim and also the father of Estes’s 2018 victim from a case in Carthage was in attendance. Although the families and victims' lives have had dark days the since Estes preyed on these girls, they stood strong and felt justice was served.
Once again, great job by Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office (Taylor Haas, Nate Dally & team as well as victim advocate, maybe the best in the business at what she does, Betsy Gunlock). These cases are not easy to put together and prosecute.

He went to trial for a jury to decide his punishment. He will be off the streets. Betsy Gunlock is great at her job. But in our case the violator should not have been given the choice to plea out. He has the same charges got 12 years. Not near what he should have gotten. He deserved alot more. 12 years is nothing he will be back out in 5 to 8 years. Doing it again.Justice is just any more.
Jesus take the wheel!
Come all ye faithful
It is a good day when we lock another Sick Pedophile and get them off the Streets.
"Court documents add that Estes was also arrested in a 2015 child molestation case in Jasper County, but charges were never filed."
