Joplin man charged with sodomizing woman at local hotel

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed felony first degree sodomy charges against Brandon Eugene Funkhouser (DOB 1981) this morning.

According to the probable cause statement, Funkhouser committed the alleged crime in a Joplin hotel room, where the victim, a 21-year-old woman, was visiting her friend when Funkhouser and another man arrived.

The friend and the other man left to go to a store.

The probable cause statement says Funkhouser pushed the woman from the patio into the room, then pushed her onto the bed.

Funkhouser stated to Victim 1, “you know you want this”. Victim 1 replied stating no and attempted to push him away. Funkhouser used one hand to pull the back of Victim 1’s hair, pinning her head to the bed.
Funkhouser proceeded to undress the woman, touched her breasts and violated her with his hand, according to the probable cause statement.

Funkhouser stopped his assault when Victim 1 told him that Witness 1 and the second male had returned to the room.

Bond was set at $75,000- $25,000 cash and $50,000 surety.

The case was investigated by the Joplin Police Department.

That is a frightening criminal history that Mr.Funkhouser has. A sad indictment to our “justice “ system.
