(From Joplin Schools)Students and staff at North Middle School last week held a surprise assembly for science teacher Brad Byers as he is about to deploy for the entirety of the 2024-25 academic year.
This will be his third deployment, so students wanted to wish him well and surround him with gratitude, encouragement, and best wishes for a safe return.
Thank you for your service 1st Sgt. Byers, and for making such a mark on your students! We'll be ready to welcome you home to Eagle Nation soon!

Salute for a Proud Veteran!
Make love not war
Honor those who have Served to Protect our way of life and the Constitution and the Freedoms that we have in the United States of America.
It is easy to say, "Make Love Not War", until you are faced with the enemy at your doorsteps.
People take their Freedoms for Granted, and have No Idea what sacrifices it took and the ones that gave their lives so you can make those comments.
Very nice of the school and students to do this. Brad Byers is a very nice man.
The miserable drivel of the "tour guide" strikes again (209).
This Brave Veteran is sacrificing for our Freedoms. These Freedoms should not be taken lightly or for granted.
Thank You 7:45PM, for your consistent attacks on commentators and not commenting on the articles in a healthy debate, this has helped propel The Turner Report to examine the bullying, harassing, and intimidation that some of you, even when asked would not stop.
Now we have a more civil structure where anyone can express their thoughts on the articles without having to deal with people like you that have a negative agenda and nothing to add.
Sorry you're so easily offended.
6:36AM, I am not easily offended, nor am I tour guide! I believe we should applaud this Brave Young Man for Serving his Country. Today we talk about our Freedoms, but this Young Man is doing something to preserve and fight for our Freedoms, if it would come to it. If you had ever fought or had a family member or friend, put their lives on the line for your Freedoms that most take for granted, maybe you would feel differently, because it is so easily forgotten and taken for granted. That others did their Service and died for our rights to say, do, and live in the greatest country in the world. If you fail to understand that - I am sorry you are so easily offended.
GIVE PEACE A CHANCE
Again, This Young Man, a Teacher, a Veteran, a Patriot, is doing his Job, not running from his obligations but Serving and Sacrificing - for our Freedoms our Peace to allow all of us to get up everyday and live in the Greatest Country in the World.
6:09AM, I believe the majority of the world would love to have Peace, but there are some out there, Dictatorships, Countries, Factions, Religions, Etc., that will never allow that to happen. "Give Peace a Chance", is more complicated than some Anti-War Protest Song by John Lennon. A nice thought but unrealistic.
Would you give up your current Freedoms to satisfy those who would want to Harm You or Take away your Freedoms, because their Beliefs or Religions does not tolerate our Freedoms. Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion. Freedom of Press, Assembly, and the Right to Petion the Government. Would China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Syria allow their Citizens the same Freedoms that we have, of course not, go to any of those Countries and Protest for your Freedoms and Rights and see where you end up!
So in a Perfect World, a Utopian Society, Peace may be achievable, but it would be almost impossible to see in the foreseeable future, and I do not want to give up my Freedoms and Beliefs to appease the Leaders in China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Syria, would you?
