Joplin man to stand trial for statutory rape

A Joplin man waived his preliminary hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court Thursday and was bound over for trial for statutory rape.

The initial appearance for Dakota A. Adams, 25, in Division I is scheduled for 9 a.m. September 16.

According to the probable cause statement, Adams walked into the Joplin Police Department lobby and confessed to having sex with a 14-year-old girl and getting her pregnant.

From the probable cause statement:

Adams said he had been staying with a friend at a location in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri. While staying with that friend he had sex with Victim1 beginning around Thanksgiving and ending just a few days ago. Officers went to Victim1’s residence and spoke with the father who allowed officers to speak with his daughter. Victim1 confirmed the two have been having sexual intercourse and she was pregnant.

Dakota A. Adams - at age 25, should have known better, and will need to pay for his crime. Just hope the Victim and the child can overcome and some how have a better life in the future -

Well thank God that 14 year old can't have an abortion. Abused kids with trauma make the best parents!!

She should have had access to Plan B and/or abortion choices.
