Leggett & Platt to pay $400,000+ following DOL finding of discrimination in hiring

(From the U. S. Department of Labor)

The U.S. Department of Labor announced that its Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs has entered into a conciliation agreement with one of the nation’s leading producers of bedding components and home and work furniture, in which the federal contractor will pay $407,402 in back wages and interest to resolve alleged hiring discrimination at a High Point production facility.

During a routine compliance review of Leggett & Platt, Incorporated, OFCCP determined that between Nov. 23, 2018 and Nov. 23, 2020, the employer’s hiring practices at the facility discriminated against 308 Black, White and Hispanic applicants for production associate positions in violation of Executive Order 11246. The law prohibits federal contractors from discriminating in employment based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or national origin.

“As a federal contractor, Leggett & Platt must ensure their employment practices are free of discrimination. They must also provide all applicants with equal employment opportunities and audit their processes to make certain no barriers to equal employment exist,” said Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs Acting Southeast Regional Director Diana Sen. “By entering into a federal contract, employers agree to ensure equal opportunity for all workers and compliance with all federal employment laws.”

In addition to paying back wages to affected class members, the conciliation agreement requires Leggett & Platt to provide 30 job offers to eligible class members, as positions become available. The company also agreed to review and revise its hiring process and ensure its hiring policies and procedures are free from discrimination.

Leggett & Platt, Incorporated has contracts to provide mattress production materials to the U.S. Department of Justice. Since 2018, the company has held more than $3 million in federal contracts.

OFCCP launched the Class Member Locator to identify applicants or workers who may be entitled to monetary relief and/or consideration for job placement as a result of OFCCP’s compliance evaluations and complaint investigations. If you think you may be a class member who applied for a production associate position with Leggett & Platt, Incorporated at its High Point, North Carolina, facility during the investigative period, please use OFCCP’s Class Member Locator to learn more about this and other settlements.

In addition to Executive Order 11246, OFCCP enforces Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974. Together, these laws prohibit employment discrimination.

Hiring Quotas, DEI, and Forcing Companies to Prop Up Individuals - is this why our Government allows all the Illegal Aliens into our Country so Companies that have Government Contracts can meet Hiring Quotas.

I would again ask this simple question - If you, your family members, or friends - needed to have a Medical Operation - would you want someone that got into Medical School, because the School needed to meet a Government Quotas or DEI Requirements - or would you want the Best Surgeon to Perform the Operation - - Remember the Medical Degree hanging on their Wall - Doesn't Tell you if they were they Graduated Last in their Class - -

Plus Businesses now when they Hire - have to have Bilingual Documents on hand and even Translators to Teach Employees how to Read and Write English and to do their Jobs - - Ridiculous.

Let's not forget the Teachers who are so overwhelmed because these Students who show up for their Classes - do not speak English or Read and Write - that they are over worked just trying to catch them up, while the current students continue to lack or get an education.

But we meet the Government Quotas and we are DEI Compliant - thanks to all the Brilliant Minds in the Government - which again are all Quota and DEI Applicants / Employees. Call any State or Federal Office - Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, IRS - Any Government Office, and see how Totally Inept they are.

What ever happened to Hiring the Best, the Most Qualified, for both Business and the Government - Why do we keep - Dumbing Down our Country - Just to meet Quotas??? This has nothing to do with Race, Gender, Religion, Whatever - this has to do with being the Best - not meeting Quotas or DEI Compliant. The Best will always rise to the Top - - Why do we have to Sacrifice Hiring or Wanting the Best - just to appease a Few -

Do we have to be a Nation of Average or Below Average - - Can't we be the Best or at least Try - What happened to the American Spirit of being Great???

Right know the Olympics are occurring - These are the Best Athletes in the World - They work Hard to be the Best to be Great - Not Average or Just get By - Why would we want the Let's Get By Group of Athletes to Compete on the World Stage - We want the Best - - Why cannot we look for that in our Government, in our Businesses - Why just be Average or Below Average - -
