Ranked choice voting topic for Newsmakers program

(From KGCS)

November 5th is election day. It may seem more significant to some as it is a presidential election but in Missouri there are also seven constitutional amendments on the ballot including one to ban ranked choice voting and non-citizen voting. But do voters know what ranked choice voting is? We learn about it in the upcoming edition Newsmakers.

Patricia O’Roark, with the League of Women Voters in Joplin, explains the groups mission to educate voters on issues and candidates. Missouri Southern State University political science Professor Will Delehanty discusses the pros and cons of ranked choice voting, plurality versus majority outcomes and the function of the electoral college. And Larry Bradley, who is an advocate for election reform and ranked choice voting, shares elections why states are utilizing ranked choice voting to achieve majority support for elected officials.

Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of October 20 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, October 26 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS - Missouri Southern State University.
