Federal charge filed against Joplin man one day after search warrant turns up sex video with 16-year-old girl

A Joplin man, who is awaiting trial in Jasper County Circuit Court on statutory rape and statutory sodomy charges is now the subject of a federal complaint alleging sexual exploitation of a minor.

The probable cause affidavit indicates the complaint against Joshua Stanley Miloszewski, 35, stems from the Jasper County case, which alleged Miloszewski was having sex with his live-in 16-year-old babysitter.

The federal complaint was filed one day after the Joplin Police Department executed a search warrant on Miloszewski's phone that revealed videos of him having sex with the 16-year-old.

From the probable cause affidavit:

On February 5, 2025, the Joplin, Missouri, Police Department (JPD) received a call for service involving the abuse of a child. 

JPD Officer Arthur Brophy responded to Joshua Stanley Miloszewski’s residence in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri, a location within the Western District of Missouri. Upon arrival, Officer Brophy spoke with a minor male (hereinafter “John Doe”). 

John Doe reported that a 16-year-old female (hereinafter “Jane Doe”) lived at the residence with Miloszewski, who was confirmed to be a 35-year-old male. John Doe reported Jane Doe moved into the residence over a year ago after she started babysitting Miloszewski’s children. 

John Doe reported that Jane Doe and Miloszewski shared a bedroom. During a cursory interview with JPD Detective David McGough, John Doe mentioned observing text messages on Jane Doe’s cellular phone that were sent to Miloszewski including a nude image of Jane Doe. John Doe described Jane Doe’s cellular phone as a blue iPhone 16 in a glitter phone case. 

On February 6, 2025, Officer Brophy and Detective McGough located Jane Doe at a residence in Joplin, Missouri. Detective McGough seized Jane Doe’s cellular phone, which he confirmed was an Apple iPhone 16. 

Prior to leaving the residence, H.R. reported that Jane Doe had used H.R.’s phone to contact Miloszewski after law enforcement arrived at the residence. H.R. later responded to the JPD and allowed Detective McGough to review the messages Jane Doe exchanged with Miloszewski using H.R.’s phone. 

In the messages, Jane Doe notified Miloszewski that law enforcement had taken her phone. Miloszewski told Jane Doe, “I told you too break it. {I'm f----d.” Jane Doe apologized and informd Miloszewski that she would not say anything to get him in trouble and that the “vids are on I cloud.” 

When Miloszewski asked if Jane Doe had deleted their messages, Jane Doe responded she was trying to, but law enforcement pulled up and would not let her use her phone outside of their presence. 

On February 13, 2025, Detective McGough applied for and received a search warrant for Jane Doe’s cellular phone, the Apple iPhone 16, from the Jasper County Circuit Court. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) TFO Larry Roller completed an extraction of the device and located child pornography images and videos of Jane Doe, that is Jane Doe engaged in sexually explicit conduct. 

There were images and videos depicting Miloszewski sodomizing and raping Jane Doe. The images and videos were captured using the iPhone 16. 

For example, one file, a video captured on November 26, 2024, depicted Miloszewski preforming oral sex on the victim. The video appeared to be taken in a common room of Miloszewski’s residence in Joplin. 

Another file, a video also captured on November 26, 2024, depicted the two engaged in sexual intercourse. During the video, Jane Doe handed the cellular phone that was recording to Miloszewski. He continued to record the sexual intercourse and later handed the cellular phone back to Jane Doe.  

Detective McGough located prior reports concerning sexual contact between Miloszewski and Jane Doe including a report made on March 18, 2024. 

On that date, an acquaintance of Jane Doe reported Miloszewski was having a sexual relationship with Jane Doe while she was his children’s babysitter. Jane Doe was fifteen years old at the time of that report. 

On February 14, 2025, this affiant applied for and received a search warrant from the Jasper County Circuit Court for Miloszewski’s residence in Joplin. The same date, JPD executed the search warrant.

Upon arrival at the residence, Jane Doe was located with Miloszewski inside of his vehicle leaving the residence. Miloszewski’s Samsung S24 Ultra cellular phone was seized during the search. 

On February 25, 2025, this affiant applied for and received a search warrant from the Jasper County Circuit Court for Miloszewski’s Samsung cellular phone. 

On May 20, 2025, this affiant reviewed the extraction of the data from Miloszewski’s phone and located sexually explicit images of Jane Doe. Some of the same images located on Jane Doe’s device depicting Miloszewski’s performing oral sex on Jane Doe were also observed on Miloszewski’s device.
