Aurora R-8 tech employee charged with sexually assaulting high school student

An Aurora R-8 School District employee is being held without bond after being charged with sexual abuse and sexual contact with a student.

The R-8 District placed Brian Adams, 35, a technical support specialist at Aurora High School on administrative leave.

Adams allegedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old freshman girl after she came to his office to have her school-issued Chromebook repaired.

Adams' initial appearance is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday in Lawrence County Circuit Court.

The allegations against Adams are detailed in the probable cause statement:

On 11/04/2025, I received information from the administration of the Aurora R-8 School District regarding an allegation they received from a 14-year-old female freshman (CV) that she was sexually assaulted by a male school staff member.

The employee was identified as 35-year-old Brian Adams and he was employed as a technical support specialist at the high school.

CV did not report the incident, but her friend, a juvenile identified as Confidential Witness (CW) became aware of the incident and alerted school administrators on the afternoon of 11/03/2025, prompting an internal investigation.

According to the school administrators, CW was hesitant to provide details as he was trying to preserve CV's confidence. He only stated the matter was very serious and needed to be addressed. CW ultimately identified the staff member as the "IT guy," but he did not disclose what had occurred.

When school administrators tried to speak with CV, she initially refused to speak about the incident. She eventually stated Brian Adams had become increasingly inappropriate with her over the past several weeks, which she described as personal conversations, making sexual comments and initiating flirtatious hugs and touches.

On the afternoon of 11/03/2025, CV visited Adams' office for assistance with her school-issued Chromebook. While alone in his office, Adams shut the office door and began kissing her without her consent. She also alleged he groped her breast and vaginal area.

When school administrators spoke with Adams, he admitted to being alone in his office with CV, and he acknowledged he shut the door for several minutes. He claimed CV had damaged a school computer and she made implications she was willing to provide sexual favors as payment for the repair.

Adams also made several unusual statements regarding personal conversations he claimed to have had with CV, indicating a level of knowledge about her personal life that was inappropriate for a staff-student relationship.

He implied CV was to blame and initiated the inappropriate behavior. School administrators stated Adams had not reported any of this information prior to the allegation. He was placed on administrative leave pending a criminal investigation.

CV participated in a forensic interview at the Children's Center in Monett, MO at 11/07/2025. She reiterated her above claim and provided several more details about the offense.

She explained she entered Adams' office and sat down in a chair to charge her phone. She was scrolling on her phone when Adams approached her, lifted her chin and began kissing her.

CV explained she "froze" and she did not know how to react. As Adams kissed her, he placed his hand under her shirt and bra and began squeezing her breast. He then moved his hand down and began rubbing her vaginal area outside of her jeans.

Once Adams began trying to unbutton her jeans, CV was completed to stop the assault. She stood up abruptly and pushed Adams away. CV's statement was largely consistent with the statement she made to school officials, but she appeared very uncomfortable discussing the subject matter.

I believed her discomfort was limiting the detail she was willing to provide. I suspected she would be more comfortable writing out a statement and I asked her mother to request that she do so.

I later received an 8-page written statement prepared by CV. The written statement was thorough, consistent and clear. It provided information about a discussion that occurred between CV and Adams just after the assault.

CV informed Adams he could get into serious trouble for his actions and she asked him if he was a "pedophile."

\
He denied the title and claimed he was a "hebephile." Neither CV nor I were familiar with the meaning of that particular term, and I later researched it to determine its definition. According to Psychology Today, hebephilia is defined as "a sexual preference for children in early adolescence between ages 11 and 14."

Adams asked CV not to tell anyone about the incident and he suggested they could keep their relationship going.

During the investigation, detectives obtained an investigative subpoena, which allowed us to collect a substantial amount of video evidence from the high school. Although there was no camera inside the office where the incident occurred, the footage corroborated CV's timeline of events and confirmed she entered Adams' office and spent a significant amount of time alone with him. The video corroborated her claims about him shutting the door shortly after she entered, and I determined the door remained closed for approximately six minutes and 59 seconds.

The video also allowed us to review CV's behavior before and after the incident. Prior to the incident, CV appeared upbeat and at ease. She was seen interacting joyfully with her friends and nothing about her behavior suggested distress or discomfort. Her movements were natural, her gait was quick and purposeful, she swung her arms as she walked and she carried herself with the confidence and energy typical for her age and environment.

After the incident, CV emerges from Adams' office noticeably distressed. She appeared distressed and burdened. Her gait is slower and she is seen hugging her sweatshirt tightly against her chest as she walks back to class. She covers her mouth with her hand in an emotional manner. She wiped her nose and adjusted her shirt. She also placed her hand over her heart several times. She then entered the bathroom for several minutes.

I later questioned CV about her behavior in the video. She explained she was "freaking out" and trying not to cry. She explained her heart was racing and she had severe anxiety. She did not know how to respond or what to do to about the incident. She went to the bathroom to cry.

A further review of the video shows CV speaking with CW. Their body language is consistent with the accounts provided in their statements. CV appears to urge CW not to disclose what she had just told him. She covers her mouth with both hands and later gestures at him in a halting motion, as if asking him not to say anything. She then walks away with her hand covering her mouth, as if trying not to cry. CV later confirmed these observations were accurate.

Shortly after this interaction, CW reports the incident to administrators. After evaluating all the available facts and thoroughly questioning the witnesses, including multiple conversations with the victim, I believed their accounts were credible and well-supported by the evidence.

During the investigation, I attempted to interview Brian Adams about the incident. He initially agreed, but later invoked his right to an attorney and declined to provide a statement.

The case was investigated by the Aurora-Marionville Police Department.
