McDonald County Sheriff's Office releases name of off-duty, suspect in officer-involved shooting

(From the McDonald County Sheriff's Office)

The McDonald County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the following information regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred on November 16, 2025, near the 700 block of Route E in Powell, Missouri.

At approximately 12:00 p.m., Reserve Deputy Michael Hall, a member of the Sheriff’s Office since 1997, observed a silver Chevrolet passenger car parked in his driveway and a male subject walking away from the vehicle.

Deputy Hall attempted to contact the individual but was unable to locate him. The vehicle was checked through the McDonald County Dispatch Center and was confirmed to be stolen out of the State of Texas. Deputy Hall requested an on-duty deputy respond to the scene and notified nearby residents of the situation.

While checking a nearby residence, Deputy Hall learned that the suspect, identified as Dylan Martinez, age 32, who is on parole from the State of Arkansas, had a prior relationship with an individual at that location.

MCSO Detectives later determined the relationship ended in a hostile manner, and Martinez is a suspect in an arson investigation in Bentonville, Arkansas, where he attempted to burn the other individual’s vehicle.

Martinez’s criminal history includes charges for Rape, Robbery, Residential Burglary, Theft of Property, Kidnapping, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Earlier in November 2025, Martinez was also arrested by an agency in Arkansas in possession of a stolen vehicle, after which he was released with a criminal summons.

As Deputy Hall returned to his residence, he observed Martinez walking back toward the stolen vehicle.
Deputy Hall contacted Martinez, who stated he was out of gas.

After identifying himself as a member of the Sheriff’s Office and ordering Martinez to show his hands, Martinez began backing away toward Route E. Martinez then produced a firearm—later determined to also be stolen from Texas—and fired at Deputy Hall, striking him in the upper thigh.

Deputy Hall returned fire, striking Martinez. Once the exchange of gunfire ended, Deputy Hall was able to take Martinez into custody. Deputy Hall provided first aid to both Martinez and himself until additional deputies and emergency personnel arrived.

Martinez was transported by air to a regional hospital for treatment. Deputy Hall was transported by ground ambulance to another nearby hospital, where he was treated and later released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
