According to the indictment, Mitchell Dean Gibbs, 34, was charged for possessing guns November 25, the day the Joplin Police Department arrested him.
The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed six felony charges against Gibbs- two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and receiving stolen property.
The charges against Gibbs were detailed in the Jasper County probable cause statement:
615 N Main Street in response to gun shots. Dispatch advised there were 4-5 shots at the storage unit
and a vehicle was seen leaving the scene.
Officers arrived on scene and stopped a 2005 Toyota Camry bearing MOLP: VL8U8N and a single occupant exited the vehicle was identified as Mitchell Gibbs.
Mitchell denied having any knowledge about any shooting and stated he at this location because he has three storage units. Several spent 9mm casings were located near the storage unit that Mitchell is renting and as I was talking with him, I observed a handgun in plain view underneath the driver seat
of his vehicle.

Mitchell showed to have multiple felony convictions for theft.Mitchell was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm and a search incident to arrest was conducted.
I searched Mitchell's vehicle and located a Glock 43x handgun (serial: BSYU350) underneath the driver seat. I also located several glass pipes containing residue along with small baggies containing crystal like substances
inside the vehicle. I also located a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver (serial: DNL5364)
(NIC/G456595796) inside the vehicle which was reported to have been stolen. The crystal-like
substance was later tested by TruNarc and it tested positive for methamphetamine with a weight of
10.05 grams. Another 2.23 grams of methamphetamine was located inside the jacket of Mitchell.
