Appeals court upholds Joplin man's 628-year sentence on child sex charges

The Missouri Southern District Court of Appeals today upheld a Joplin man's 628-year sentence on child molestation, statutory sodomy, rape and weapons charges.

The court unanimously rejected the claim of Daniel F. Franklin, 67, that he should receive a new trial because he had a hard time hearing the lawyers and witnesses. Franklin said his lawyer provided ineffective counsel by not making sure he could hear the proceedings.

A Jasper County jury convicted Franklin June 14, 2021 on two counts of child molestation, three counts of statutory sodomy, three counts of statutory rape, and single counts of enticement of a child and unlawful use of a weapon.

Judge Dean Dankelson followed the jury's recommendation and sentenced Franklin to 99 years on each of the statutory rape and statutory sodomy charges, 30 years on each of the child molestation charges, 30 years on the enticement charge and four years on the weapons charge with several of the charges set to run consecutively adding up to 628 years.

Those are the sentences all child sexual predators should receive.

Can we please go back to these types of judgements!! Let’s save all children and start locking up all of them for this many years!! Then after they appeal and lose, take them and fry them up! No reason to keep using taxpayers money to let them keep breathing.

At this point we need more than multiple lifetime sentencing, we need public humiliation and executions, society is too far gone after decades of "tolerance" and "love is love"

Daniel F. Franklin, is another sick, twisted, and perverted pedophile. All pedophiles should either be given - lethal injection, electrocution, firing squad, or lethal gas, they cannot be reformed, nor should they be allowed back into society to commit more heinous crimes against children.

8:39 I don’t believe that public humiliation would matter to these predators. They are in court and jail repeatedly for the same thing over and over and it doesn’t deter their behavior. I think it’s past time to just sentence them to life in their first offense. Why allow all these children to suffer from these deviants. Not to mention some children who have been sexually abused go on to become future abusers themselves. A line needs to be drawn and drawn quickly.

921, public humiliation is useful as a deterrent, maybe not so much to the person who has been caught and found guilty and is put in the public's eye, but to others out in the public sphere who are leaning towards doing something criminal but haven't decided if they're going to push forward with their dark intentions or not.
Yes there will always be complete sickos out there who are going to do sexually immoral acts no matter what, just like there's always going to be murderers even if every murderer automatically gets the death penalty, but for every complete psychopath out there there's many more who are on the fence, they have some bad ideas but never act on it until they see they can get away with it without any major consequences.
Public humiliation, then execution, that's what I propose. About as good of a deterrent as you're going to get in a sick perverted world.
