Burlison grills Smithsonian director

(From Seventh District Congressman Eric Burlison)

On Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency held a hearing titled "Rewriting American History: Examining the Smithsonian's Efforts to Reshape the Past."

The hearing exposed that the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History has lost sight of its responsibility to tell America's story with confidence, favoring ideology over history.

During the hearing, I questioned Director Anthea Hartig about her past remarks on moving beyond an "America First mentality" and made the case that our national museum should instead lead in celebrating the principles and people that shaped the United States.

Lead in celebrating principals? What principles? How is lying and white washing our past history a celebration. How about the principals of honesty and integrity? Why is it suddenly unamerican and unpatriotic to cover all of our history, whether it is the good, bad or ugly? No country is perfect and our country’s history is definitely not perfect. But acknowledging our faults is a step in preventing the mistakes from occurring again. Lying and trying to deny these mistakes, does not make our country better or stronger, it makes us hypocrites. The truth is always the best policy and sets us free. We can not lie our way out of these mistakes.

Out of the blue, the gop beats up on America’s greatest museum to distract from their failures.

Yes, we keep trying to rewrite history to fit some groups and their political diatribes. Which several have tried to continue this with the DEI, CRT, and Woke Movements, trying to Force Companies, Education in Schools and Colleges, and our Government State and Federal into hiring and using these Movements to push their agendas - hiring and doing not the best but into meeting specific quotas. If your Life depended on Surgery from a Doctor - would you want the Best Surgeon or from one, they needed to send through college to meet a Quota or Requirements??? Why is it so hard to put "America First", in everything we do - have all these so-called Movements forgotten that we want to be and do the Best we can - not just be mediocre?

Abraham Lincoln was a Republican, a Yankee, a White Man, and the President of the United States and fought to free the Slaves. The KKK, was established and funded by Southern Democrats after the Civil War. These are the Facts and Truths, and yet the Democrats try to hide from there past acts - that continued well into the 21st Century!

Historical Context (19th and Early 20th Century)
Founding: The first KKK was started in 1866 in Pulaski, Tennessee, by six Confederate veterans as a social club.

Reconstruction Era: The Klan quickly evolved into a terrorist organization. It worked to overthrow Republican Reconstruction governments in the South and to stop Black Americans from voting.

Political Alignment: White Southerners in the post-Civil War South strongly opposed the Republican Party (the party of Abraham Lincoln and Reconstruction). Most aligned with the Democratic Party, and local Klans often acted as a paramilitary wing for Southern Democratic efforts to reestablish white supremacy.

8:07 is forgetting the Democrats and Republicans switched on almost every stance over the years, and are now nowhere close to what they were back then.

Spout your 'my team vs your team' nonsense all you want, you're looking at history, not the evolution of the parties into modern day.

Why were so many Confederate flags displayed with Trump MAGA flags over tthe past 10 years?

Why do so many southern states controlled by Republicans continue to celebrate the treason of the Confederate cause?

Why did Ronald Reagan start his 1980 presidential campaign with a speech at the Neshoba County Mississippi fairgrounds with a speech about "States Rights?" (Less than 10 miles from where the Mississippi Burning civil rights murders happened in 1964.)
