Sarah Steelman: Chief Justice Roberts is a tool of the establishment

I am disappointed and angry that the United States Supreme Court passed down a ruling which will alter the fabric of our nation by creating a fundamentally socialist healthcare system.

Today's ruling is not a republican ruling. It is not a democrat ruling. It is an establishment ruling. Lead by Chief Justice Roberts, an establishment appointee, more focused on keeping power in the hands of Washington politicians. This is why the status quo has got to go, we cannot afford more of the same.

For months, ObamaCare opponents have said that the individual mandate was a tax while Obama and his liberal enablers in the media mocked us. All this grand expansion of the taxing authority will do is lead to more uncertainty, less growth, and fewer jobs. Once again the Establishement of both parties have increased their power at the expense of our nation.

I will vote to repeal Obamacare. And I know you don't have to attend Harvard to be a good judge or public servant. I will only support judicial nominees who are strict Constitutionalists, that recognize the Constitution is the Supreme law of the land and who understand that God gave us freedom not government and that our Constitution protects those liberties. And unlike the establishment candidates, I will do what I say I am going to do.

Giving credit where credit is due on MSSU pay increases

Two weeks ago, Missouri Southern State University Board of Governors Chairwoman Sherry Buchanan praised President Bruce Speck for the "tough decisions": he had made, such as not giving pay raises and eliminating or not filling positions on campus when finances were tight.


In a university news release issued today, she offers a different opinion.

The Board of Governors of Missouri Southern State University met this morning and approved a 3 percent pay raise for employees.

“I am very pleased the Board of Governors approved this pay raise,” said Board Chair Dr. Sherry Buchanan.
“This is a way of thanking MSSU employees for their hard work,” she said. “It is symbolic, in addition to being about dollars and cents, because it shows we value our employees.”

The pay raise will take effect July 1.

  
I guess Bruce Speck did make the tough decision. Apparently, when the employees get a raise, the Board of Governors get the credit and when they don't get a raise, it was Bruce Speck's "tough decision." 

Does anybody in charge over there really have a clue?

Spence to Nixon: Don't implement Obamacare

Today Dave Spence, Republican candidate for governor, called on Jay Nixon not to take any action to implement Obamacare until after the election in November.  The Supreme Court upheld today Obamacare saying it is clearly a tax increase.

                "Jay Nixon needs to be very clear about his plans in response to the Obamacare decision," said Spence. "Today I'm calling on him to commit to all Missourians that he will not take any action to implement the job-killing law until voters have an opportunity to make their voices heard in November."

                What makes Nixon’s recent public opposition to the individual mandate so insulting is his history of supporting the implementation of Obamacare. Last fall, Nixon attempted to circumvent the legislature by implementing health care exchanges through a board of unelected officials before Republican senators rushed to the meeting place to stop a vote. Nixon is on record as saying his “only focus” is to “implement the law of the land” referring to Obamacare. Jay Nixon offers as an explanation that he’s been “too busy” running the state to publicly state his opposition to the mandate. Yet, he found time to attempt to lay the foundation to implement this massive tax increase?

                It was only after the political winds began to blow against Governor Nixon that he decided to adjust his sails and voice unclear opposition to the individual mandate. The question now is will Jay Nixon continue with his desire to “implement the law of the land”, or will he finally follow the over 70% of Missourians who voted overwhelmingly to reject this mandate?

                Spence is calling on Nixon to be clear about his intentions to implement Obamacare in the future, a stark departure from Nixon’s record of fumbling explanations of his own stance on the law.

"The Supreme Court ruling today is disappointing but also affirmed what we knew all along -- this is an enormous tax increase that will be felt by middle class and struggling Missourians. This tax will block job creation and further collapse our fragile debt-ridden economy. In Missouri I led the fight against Obama Care when I put Prop C, the Health Care Freedom Act on the ballot, and more importantly I stopped Governor Nixon from creating a health insurance exchange in our state which was the building blocks for socialized medicine. I will continue to fight against big government and I will always stand with the 70+% of Missourians that voted in favor of Prop C and against Obama Care.  Elections matter and in November, the voters of Missouri will be the only court opinion that matters."

“This morning’s Supreme Court decision crystallizes the stakes in this election:  Will we elect Democrats intent on implementing this law, or will we elect Republicans who will work to repeal and replace Obamacare?

“It’s important to remember that just because a law is ruled constitutional doesn’t make it good policy—and in fact, it’s not. Under Obamacare, health care costs continue to increase, choice in health care has been severely restricted, and businesses have been saddled with burdensome regulations.  Making matters worse,Obamacare is the largest tax increase in American history.

“Missourians deserve real, market-based health care reforms that give patients more choices at lower costs—not a one-size-fits-all mandate that puts government bureaucrats in the middle of Americans’ health care decisions.”

This decision is not only a blow to Americans who must deal with the consequences of government takeover of health care, but it is also a blow to democracy and the individual liberties this country was founded on. I will continue to fight in Congress to repeal this harmful law and replace it with patient-centered health care that addresses the rising cost of health care in this country.
