It would be a cheap shot to say that Missouri Governor Matt Blunt figured that it would take someone with a knowledge of theft and forgery to be the head of the Missouri Business Development and Trade Division.
However, that is the person the governor appointed to that important post. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, less than a half hour ago, posted an article saying that Randa Hayes, under her maiden name of Ismail in Chicago, was charged with felony theft, forgery, and misdemeanor theft. She was placed on unpaid administrative leave today, according to the article.
No details about the crime were available. Even though Ms. Hayes completed her probation in early 2000, the article said, the judge ordered that the file be sealed...on May 31, shortly after the governor appointed her.
Naturally, Ms. Hayes' primary qualification for her job seems to be that she brought in money for Matt Blunt during the 2004 election. According to the Post-Dispatch article, Ms. Hayes, 32, "organized a fundraiser for Blunt last year that drew 250 people and raised more than $50,000."
