Blunt tackles eminent domain ruling

The U. S House of Representatives voted 231 to 189 today to deny federal funding for any city or state project that forces people to sell their property to make way for a business interest such as a mall or a hotel.
This vote, which came as an amendment to another bill, was hurried to the House floor following last week's U. S. Supreme Court ruling that said it was o. k. for eminent domain to be used for business projects, which would purportedly bring in revenue for communities.
The measure applies only to money administered by the departments of Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development, so Seventh District Congressman Roy Blunt, who is House majority whip; and Majority Leader Tom DeLay, have indicated they will push for a measure that includes all federal funds, according to The Washington Post.
