I was a bit disturbed by the report on KODE's 5 p.m. broadcast about the arrest of John Mason on statutory rape charges. I won't go into detail (unlike KODE), but the report came right out and said who Mason's underage victim was. And even though people might be able to figure it out anyway, hasn't this poor girl been through enough?
I don't have any problem with the story being reported, but if someone is charged with statutory sodomy, the charge speaks for itself without having to reveal who the victim was.
KOAM handled the story much better during its 10 p.m. newscast, giving the charge, but no information on the victim.
