D. J. Dan, Joplin native, dead at 70

Joplin native Daniel D. Hoffman, known in various radio markets across the country as DJ Dan died of lung cancer Dec. 28, according to print reports.
Mr. Hoffman started in entertainment as a member of the Boys Town Choir, where he performed on the Ed Sullivan, Kate Smith, and Arthur Godfrey shows in the 1950s. He became DJ Dan during a long radio career beginning in the 1960s and eventually reaching such areas as Omaha, Neb., and Butte Montana. He also dabbled in publishing, singing, songwriting, and business.
