Challenger Ned Lamont took the early lead in the Connecticut Democratic senatorial race with 53 percent to 47 for incumbent Joe Lieberman, according to MSNBC.
This race has been seen as a referendum on the Iraq war, while some, including the writer of this blog, have seen Lamont's success as a sign that the Democratic party is completely slamming the door on the Harry Truman/Scoop Jackson/Ike Skelton type middle-of-the-road candidate.
I have also been disturbed by how so many candidates we have who are calling themselves mavericks, while using their money to buy political influence. It's nothing new, but it's another sign of how real political mavericks are being shut out in favor of dilettantes with big bank accounts.
