Joplin Daily still running politicians' columns

Apparently, the Neosho Daily News decision not to run columns written by politicians who have opposition in November is something the newspaper itself decided to do and is not a GateHouse Media decision.
The Joplin Daily has posted the latest free advertisement for Rep. Marilyn Ruestman on its website. I have yet to see a column written by Ms. Ruestman's opponent, Democrat Ben Carnahan.
The Joplin Daily's continued insistence on running Ms. Ruestman's columns is perplexing. This blog has reported numerous times that Ms. Ruestman has either plagiarized some of her columns, or she has been the victim of some of the most amazing coincidences ever seen.
For some background, please read the Feb. 5 Turner Report, the Dec. 20, 2005 Turner Report, the Dec. 14, 2005 Turner Report, and the Dec. 13, 2005, Turner Report.

I wonder: Has Ben Carnahan sent them one????

Perhaps they're just tryin' to fill space.

Until Carnahan sends them a column (or you can confirm that he has), Marilyn is winning by default.

  2. I would be surprised if Carnahan has been offered a column. In the first place, he surely would have been smart enough to have taken advantage of such an offer. In the second, the Joplin Daily would have been smart enough to have made that offer public, especially in the face of continuing criticism.

This is especially interesting since the Joplin Daily News is "all Joplin...all the time" and Ms Ruestman's district is McDonald and Newton couties, not Joplin. The Joplin Daily seems to like to run press releases from marketing departments and PR firms in lieu of actually reporting, so I guess this is just a partisan extention of that policy. I've heard that it's just a mouthpiece for the Joplin Chamber of Commerce - do you know if that's true?
