"It could have been a lot worse," Mayor Jon Tupper said and everyone at the table at tonight's City Council meeting knew what the comment was in reference to- the gunman who opened fire this morning at Memorial Middle School.
"You see that on TV, you see it on the news, it's always somewhere else." This time, he noted, it was here in Joplin.
Tupper commended the work done by the police and school officials to keep the situation under control.
"We were prepared to protect our community and our children," Tupper said.
Sounds like the administrators did a brave act. But the bottom line is we are lucky. If that gun hadn't jammed we would've had several deaths.
