Nodler: Virginia Tech massacre a "human tragedy of tremendous proportion

The Missouri Senate observed a moment of silence Tuesday in honor of the victims of Monday's mass shooting at Virginia Tech.
Sen. Gary Nodler, R-Joplin was quoted in the Columbia Missourian:

Gary Nodler, R-Joplin, Senate education committee chairman, called the shootings in Blacksburg "a human tragedy of tremendous proportion."

Regarding the issue of campus security, Nodler said that it is difficult for any large area to protect itself from any act of violence.

"This happened at the University of Texas in the '60s, when a student who was a former Marine had a psychotic episode and went up to the top of a tower and shot people as they walked across campus," Nodler said. "And I don’t know that you can ever wholly secure any place or business or school from an insane act."

Nodler also cited the school shooting that took place at an Amish school in Pennsylvania last year as an example of a seemingly secure school falling victim to a psychotic individual.

How tragic, not unlike just another day in Bagdad.

    Sometimes I vote for republicans.

The thing is, I quit listening to you, Nodler, when you went after and tried to kick those disabled young adults out of the theater. You probably don't realize it, but their lives are not one big round of fun and frolic. They face challenges on a daily basis that are worse than anything you've ever had to face. In fact, they probably don't get an outing very often and you just had to go and ruin it for them. Ant that's why nothing you say has any value as far as I'm concerned.

To anonymous #1. You seem to subscribe to the Nazi idea of repeating a lie often in the hopes it will be believed. Nodler never tried to have any disabled people thrown out of a theater. That story was discredited when the accuser refused a lie detector test. The people of Nodler's district took a vote on him and clearly didn't buy the lie. Most of those that repeat the lie know better, they just play dirty politics repeating lies like you do. I had family at the theater that day and they verified Nodler’s version. The truth won't stop you though any more than it did Hitler.

I'll let your inaccuracies speak for themselves and your point of view.

In the meantime, Nodler is busy showing us just how dirty he really is. He doesn't look at Farber? He didn't have to. He already knew. And then there's MOHELA.

  6. You can't expect the entire city to shut down because of a homicide. You can expect the city block to shut down.

We held a memorial service for the victims of Virgina Tech and at that service, a former professor of VT, current Civil Engineering professor, spoke about ways to make our university safer. After raddeling off a handful of ideas he commented that doing these things would come at a cost to the students and forcing the price of higher education up will only result in more harm to our society. "A good engineer creating quality products will save more lives than a metal detector keeping out a gun."

Funny how democrats will discredit Nodler or anyone they don't like just for the simple fact that they do not like them. To say that a person isn't touched by a tragedy of this magnitude simply because they are a republican....well that says a lot about the person's character making the above post. I don't agree with most liberals and their distorted view of the world but when it comes to important matters such as global warming for instance, I listen intently. I suggest many of the rest of you do the same.
