Mid-Year Review, Part V: February 2007

Continuing a review of the first six months of the year in The Turner Report, these stories appeared in February:

Feb. 28- A federal grand jury was investigating claims that Maximus, Inc., a client of lobbyist Andrew Blunt, bilked the District of Columbia out of tens of millions of dollars.

Feb. 28- Governor Matt Blunt appointed another big contributor, David Ross of Enterprise Rent-A-Car to the Appellate Judicial Commission.

Feb. 19- Three Congressmen who left their posts with shadows hanging over them, Tom DeLay, Duke Cunningham, and Bob Ney, donated $42,000 to Sixth District Congressman Sam Graves' political committee.

Feb. 18- Problems in several states plague lobbyist Andrew Blunt's newest client, Maximus, Inc. (Blunt no longer represents the company.)

Feb. 14- A plea hearing for former Oronogo tax prepare Carrie Shafer was set in federal court.

Feb. 7- Sen. Gary Nodler, who was inconvenienced by having to face an independent candidate in the 2006 general election, filed a bill making it harder for such candidates to mount campaigns.
