Former Rep. Nathan Cooper, R-Cape Girardeau, told federal officials he made $50,000 from his immigration fraud scheme so that is the amount the government is asking Cooper to forfeit.
In a motion filed today in U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, Assistant U. S. Attorney James Crowe said the government has not "identified specific assets that were derived from the offenses the defendant had been convicted. Nor has the United States yet identified any property of the defendant that could be forfeited as a substitute asset." So Crowe asked for the monetary judgment.
Cooper has already entered a guilty plea and is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
