Whitaker shines after two disappointing opening numbers

Sixteen-year-old Alaina Whitaker was the first American Idol contestant of the three who have sung so far to impress me. I have always liked "More Today than Yesterday," the old 1969 Spiral Staircase song and Miss Whitaker knocked it out of the park.
And since Simon Cowell does not like that song, that makes me like it even more.
The first two singers were not that impressive, though Kristy Lee Cook had bronchitis as an excuse.
We still are waiting to hear from Joplin's Asia'h Epperson, and apparently she will not be the contestant when the program returns from a commercial break.
