Zweifel launches first television ad

Democratic State Treasurer candidate Clint Zweifel has become the first candidate for that office to launch a television ad campaign this year. From a Zweifel news release:

"The commercial will begin running Sunday across Missouri. It highlights Zweifel's ideas to fix the problems that Governor Matt Blunt and the Republican legislature created the last four years.

"In the legislature, I stood up to Governor Blunt when he cut Medicaid and raided our student loan agency," Zweifel said. "As state treasurer, I will continue to fight for fiscal responsibility in state government and for Missouri families facing rising college tuition costs and increasing mortgage rates."

"We could not have come this far without strong support from Democrats across Missouri," Zweifel said. "My campaign has been endorsed by the Kansas City Star, prominent Democrats like former Governor Roger Wilson, U.S. Representative Lacy Clay, State Senators Joan Bray, Rita Days, Wes Shoemyer and Frank Barnitz, former Lt. Governor Joe Maxwell, the majority of my House colleagues, labor unions and Democratic organizations across Missouri."

"I am also humbled by the financial support that enables us to effectively communicate our ideas and values to Missouri voters," Zweifel said. "In five months, we raised over $400,000 from close to 800 contributors. Over fifty percent of these contributions were under $200."
