Rep. Ron Richard, R-Joplin, our Speaker of the House in waiting, topped Joplin-area legislators in lobbyists' gifts in June, according to documents posted Aug. 1 on the Missouri Ethics Commission website.
Richard received $186.67 during the month, led by two meals, totaling $82.80 from Rodney Boyd, representing Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal. Richard also received a $40 ticket to a St. Louis Cardinals game from Calvin Call, lobbyist for the Missouri Insurance Coalition.
Richard's total for the first six months of 2008 is $1,737.95.
Sen. Gary Nodler's June total of $75.26 includes the St. Louis Cardinals game from Call, and a $26.39 ticket, apparently for the Springfield Cardinals from Sandy Howard, Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. Ethics Commission records also indicate Nodler's wife, Joncee, also received tickets for those games, though those gifts are not included in the senator's total. Nodler's total for 2008 is $273.68.
Only two other local representatives, Ed Emery, R-Lamar, and Steve Hunter, R-Joplin, accepted gifts in June, according to the Ethics Commission reports.
Emery received $38.89 in gifts, including the ballgame from Howard, and has received $906.44 this year. Hunter's total was $30.45, with the top gift, a $21 meal from Larry Cole, representing Cornerstone Health. Hunter's 2008 total is $2,269.94.
Three representatives- Marilyn Ruestman, R-Joplin, Bryan Stevenson, R-Webb City; and Kevin Wilson, R-Neosho, did not receive any gifts in June, according to the reports. Mrs. Ruestman's total for 2008 is $551.63, Stevenson's is $793.15, and Wilson's is $402.25.
