Globe editorial: People should be able to contribute as much money as they want, or maybe not

Leave it to the Joplin Globe Editorial Board to write about the repeal of campaign contribution limits and come down on both sides of the issue.

In an editorial in today's edition, the Globe takes a principled stand that maybe it's right and maybe it's wrong. First, the Globe says:

We believe people should be able to spend their money as they wish, and if that means giving it to political candidates, then so be it.

Then the Globe says:

There is a difference, we think, in making a contribution to the candidate who you believe will do the best job, and making a contribution that, in effect, makes that candidate beholden to the contributor.

I am sure there are many people who are donating anywhere from $10,000 a pop to hundreds of thousands who are donating simply because of their faith in the candidate.
