In an editorial in today's edition, the Globe takes a principled stand that maybe it's right and maybe it's wrong. First, the Globe says:
We believe people should be able to spend their money as they wish, and if that means giving it to political candidates, then so be it.
Then the Globe says:
There is a difference, we think, in making a contribution to the candidate who you believe will do the best job, and making a contribution that, in effect, makes that candidate beholden to the contributor.
I am sure there are many people who are donating anywhere from $10,000 a pop to hundreds of thousands who are donating simply because of their faith in the candidate.
