In its latest edition, the newspaper hit with its strongest editorial to date, criticizing the recent decision to prevent faculty members and students from talking to the Chart without going through the university's public relations department:
There’s a yellow brick road on campus, and it leads straight to Hearnes Hall.
There, on the second floor, somewhere inside the University President’s office, we assume, is Dr. Bruce Speck.
The cowardly Lion.
We can’t be sure, though. Nobody has seen Speck for days. He hasn’t talked to us for weeks. Since last Monday, the public face of this public university, our president, has been in hiding. Since directing administrators and faculty to begin following an autocratic media policy he originally introduced in 2008, Speck has seemingly disappeared from the face of the earth.
Speck is missing. Calls meant for him are to go to Surber. I think the press is misreading the situation. Speck isn't hiding. He's been deposed. There's been a coup d'etat and Surber is the new president.
ReplyDeleteSpeck's behavior is bizarre. He's starting to hide from everyone and miss a lot of meetings he used to always attend.
ReplyDeleteHow about his ubddy DD havent seen or heard from him much - after this latest info about Speck MAYBE JUST MAYBE the board will cut their losses - pay the guy - get him off are campus before it is to late

ReplyDeleteNaah... Dwight Douglas will not give up. He controls the board. Every single member is afraid of him and Nodler. DD is intent on getting the medical school for Freeman Hospital, just as he was intent on getting the MSSC health insurance account for Freeman to the detriment of St. Johns. Thats why he was rewarded by Gary Duncan who promoted him from parttime hospital lawyer to full time. Now Gary wants a medical school and DD will deliver. Or will he... Oh, shoot, Dwight, if Bruce just had a brain...
Is there any truth to the rumor that he skipped the Faculty Senate meeting for no apparent reason?
