KOAM dominated the November sweeps, according to the latest Nielsen book. The folks at Channel 7, more than doubled KODE and KSNF combined at noon (with KODE running All My Children) KODE, with a strong Oprah lead-in doubled KSNF's total at 5 p.m., but still finished 16,000 viewers behind KOAM.
KFJX's 9 p.m. newscast drew more viewers than the 10 p.m. newscasts on KODE and KSNF.

Looks like KSN's attemptat an hour long 6pm Newscast didn't work very well. Last place is a poor position. There is some stiff competition like a game show where you guess word puzzles like in hang man, (Wheel of Fortune), and that need to know stuff on Entertainment Tonight. Is KSN unravelling to a slow death or a fast one? Since Perry Sook said in a recent publication, "If you aren't #1 or #2 in local News, you should get out of the Local News Business," does that mean they just quit trying in the coming year?
ReplyDeleteLooks to me like they quit trying A LONG time ago!
ReplyDeleteCan someone explain to me why KOAM TV does so well in the ratings? Is it because their signal stretches further west into Kansas than the Joplin stations? Is it because old people viewers in Kansas stick with it because its in Kansas? Surely Joplin city viewers are not tuning into a Kansas TV station for their local news. Also how they get these assumed rating numbers? Is it done by calling random people?
ReplyDeleteKSNF has news? Who knew? Apparently not most of the 4 states!!!
ReplyDeleteKOAM wins in Jasper/Newton County as well. Understanding why just requires watching.
ReplyDeleteKOAM knows news...and delivers.
ReplyDeleteKOAM knows old people. The only people who take time to fill out the books.
ReplyDeleteGuess the great loss of Brian Dorman won't be such a big loss after all huh?
ReplyDeleteWHEN will Jim Jackson retire???
ReplyDeleteHow do these numbers compare to the last November book Randy?
ReplyDeleteWhat makes me disbelieve this rating system, is that I really doubt All My Children has so few viewers.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who doubts these audience numbers can verify them. To shed doubt requires a valid argument. If you don't believe a football field is 100 yards, the go measure it yourself. The shocking thing thing is there is at least one person who believes that what they believe and do is what everyone else does. I'm sure someone can provide audience levels to all the above questions. The question is, do these nay sayers really want to hear the truth?
ReplyDeletehuh?
ReplyDelete8:31 that kid was doing better than Jim Jackson. Please do us all a favor and hang it up Jackson; your efforts are clearly not working.
ReplyDeleteRandy, any information on the Nielsen numbers from the Springfield market? I've always understood KYTV to be the ratings dominator, but I'm curious as to how big a lead it is...
ReplyDeletesix,
ReplyDeleteWTF?
Jim Jackson likes himself too much to even know that others really don't like him.
ReplyDeleteJim Jackson likes himself too much to even know that others really don't like him.
ReplyDeleteI like Jim Jackson. Off the air I have found him to be gleeful and full of it at the same time. Now that takes talent.
ReplyDeleteI also get KY3 in addition to the Joplin stations.I wish KY3 would report on Joplin area news. They do a first class job.
Across the board from the top to the bottom, KY3 is a model for news, weather, and sports reporting.
Across the board, from the top to the bottom, the Joplin area stations have a long way to go to meet the KY3 standards.
Why is everyone on Jim Jackson's case? Once he retires, and he will, you will just find someone else to attack.
ReplyDeleteHow does someone get KY3 Springfield in Joplin?
ReplyDeleteSports reporting in this market hasn't been very good here for 5-10 years now.
ReplyDeleteDish, thank you very much.
ReplyDelete8:26pm, about sports...that is just not true.
ReplyDeleteThe most important number here is that Wheel of Torture gets more viewers than any newscast.
ReplyDeleteWhat would we ever do without the wheel?
ReplyDelete5:51, I'd look again, awful.
ReplyDeleteFrom which age group are these numbers Randy?
ReplyDeleteTwo and above.
