Snow beginning to hit area

Latest update from National Weather Service:

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PMCST WEDNESDAY. *

SHORT TERM TRENDS...LIGHT SNOW WILL CONTINUE OVER PARTS OFSOUTHEAST KANSAS INTO WESTERN MISSOURI THIS AFTERNOON.

REPORTSFROM EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT...LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENTS...AND VOLUNTEER OBSERVERS INDICATE THAT A HALF INCH TO AN INCH OF SNOW HAS FALLEN IN SOME AREAS OF SOUTHEAST KANSAS INCLUDING THE UNIONTOWN AND PITTSBURG AREAS. A LIGHT DUSTING HAS OCCURRED IN SOME AREAS OF WESTERN MISSOURI. FLURRIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED AS FAR EAST AS REPUBLIC AND NIXA WITH A NARROW BAND OF SNOW JUST SOUTH OF THE SPRINGFIELD AREA.

IN GENERAL...ANOTHER HALF INCH TO AN INCH OF SNOW IS EXPECTED IN SOUTHEAST KANSAS AND FAR WESTERN MISSOURI THIS AFTERNOON WITH LESSER AMOUNTS EAST TO THE HIGHWAY 65 CORRIDOR.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...ALONG AND NORTH OF A BAXTER SPRINGS KANSAS TO JOPLIN AND OSCEOLA MISSOURI LINE FROM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...BY THE TIME SNOW ENDS ON WEDNESDAY...3 TO 5INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED WITH LOCALIZED AMOUNTS AROUND 6 INCHES POSSIBLE. * WINDS AND VISIBILITY...SUSTAINED WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH WILL CAUSE SOME MINOR BLOWING AND DRIFTING.

* IMPACTS...ACCUMULATING SNOW COULD RESULT IN SLICK ROAD CONDITIONS ACROSS THE AREA...ESPECIALLY LATE THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY.
