June 25 arraignment set in Joplin Tornado fraud case

A Monday, June 25 arraignment has been scheduled for Pamala Ann Shafer, 57, one of eight people indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of disaster fraud and making false statements to FEMA officials following the May 22, 2011, Joplin Tornado.

Ms. Shafer, is accused of telling FEMA she lived at 1705 Kentucky Avenue North Apartments, when that was not the case.


The maximum penalty for disaster fraud is 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, while the maximum penalty for making false statements to FEMA is five years in prison.

Ms. Shafer and the other seven who were charged are being represented by federal public defenders, according to court documents.
