On Tuesday, June 19 at 5 p.m., St. Louisans will rally outside of the Ritz Carlton, fed up with a candidate who took a $40 million taxpayer bailout but whose campaign for governor is focused on attacking Missouri workers. Inside the posh Clayton hotel, the wealthy banker will be holding a fundraiser featuring Ohio Governor John Kasich, whose failed attempt to take away collective bargaining rights of Ohio firefighters, teachers and police officers was soundly rejected by voters.
It would appear that Spence hasn't learned anything from the embattled Ohio governor and his rock-bottom approval ratings. In fact, Spence has taken an even harder line than Kasich in recent months – pushing extremist anti-worker legislation that would hurt hard-working Missourians and create even more inequality in our economic system. With Spence running for Missouri Governor by attacking prevailing wages and pushing so-called 'right to work,' it isn't that surprising that he is embracing John Kasich. What is notable is that Spence is pushing a truly radical agenda that shows he cares nothing about Missouri workers, except when it's time for us to bail him out. He wants to copy John Kasich's failed policies in Missouri, doesn't support the minimum wage -- and instead of pledging to work together to create jobs, he wants "tough love" for jobless Missourians.
No wonder his campaign is struggling to pick up steam. Dave Spence embodies everything that's wrong with the 1%. His attacks on middle class workers, even after sticking us with the bill for his $40 million bank bailout shows he's out of touch with voters in the Show Me state.
