I hope these families can get someone to be a good advocate for them. I hate to say it but we all know something underhanded will happen to try and silence these families, mainly because they reside in income based housing and as such are not part of a " protected group". Of course to no one from the district would speak on camera.
Student safety is always our top priority...just as it was when a pedophile had pictures of JHS girls on his computer and parents weren't told so they could protect their children, or when teachers are strongly discouraged from writing referrals so that district records look better at DESE and to the public.
Image is what is always the top priority in Joplin, and situations like this one are the result of that poor choice.
No cameras, aides, or discipline. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Aren't buses and bus safety under the management of Mike Johnson, who is being sued at this time? The same guy that screwed up the procedures for substitute bus drivers? Safety is always the priority of the district, you bet.
Mr. Turner - I heard something about expanded dual credit offerings at Joplin High School next year as well as a JHS student getting to share the stage and speak with Governor Nixon. I logged on hoping to find more but haven't been able to find your article on this topic. Could you please direct us to it?

It sounds like the students were out of hand for some time and had no fear. That's a reflection on parenting, no doubt about it. But it also means they didn't fear getting into trouble at school, which reflects R8's policy of not disciplining students to make their record look better. It's a lose lose situation.
This driver was out of control on several different occasions. Many parents reported his actions and expected something to be done about it. Yes there are about 5 kids on that bus that get very out of control, however none of them should be treated like this
